Cherokee County Georgia consists of the following cities:
Ball Ground (The Cherokee Indians met here during an earlier century to play a game resembling lacrosse. This quiet, peaceful community is a family-oriented town boasting a neat and tidy downtown district.)
Canton (the County Seat of Cherokee County was incorporated under the name Etowah in 1833 then changed to Canton December 18, 1834. The founders of Canton attempted to establish silk production but failed; however, the city is named after the city in China.)
Holly Springs ( This five square mile oasis of friendly neighborhoods, thriving businesses, and wonderful early-twentieth century homes and commercial buildings is located in the heart of Cherokee County. The City was built around a busy train depot established by the L&N Railroad (now the Georgia Northeastern Railway) which is now the Holly Springs Community Center and is a source of immense civic pride for local residents.)
Waleska (home of famous Reinhardt College was known as ‘Walesca’ for many years but was changed to its current form to prevent confusion with another town)
Woodstock(the largest and fastest growing city in Cherokee County Woodstock is over one hundred years old and one of the county’s oldest towns.)



Originally Cherokee County covered everything northwest of the Chattahoochee River except for Carroll County. In 1832, as part of the Cherokee Land Lottery, 10 counties were carved out of these Cherokee lands.

Often referred to as “Where Metro Meets The Mountains”, Cherokee County offers the best of both worlds – the tranquility of a rural area with the fast-paced, metro setting. Its uniqueness has attracted people from all walks of life. Past, present and future walk hand-in-hand here and, if you listen closely, you can almost take a step back in time!
