Coweta County - Metro Atlanta Guidebook

Coweta County Georgia consists of the following cities:
Grantville (most of this historic town has been restored but you can still catch a glimpse of history with places like the old railroad depot or old brick warehouse)
Haralson (home of the world famous "Rooster Pepper" sausage made by Williams Grocery and served at Washington social functions. Visit the old historic downtown area or the Esco Feed Mill.)
Moreland (originally a crossroads settlement of farm families and home of the Lewis Grizzard Museum which honors the popular Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist, book author and speaker)
Newnan (known as the “City of Homes” - the county seat and home of two popular historic sites - the Catalpa Plantation and the Oak Grove Plantation and Gardens - both antebellum homes built in 1835)
Senoia (most of the town comprises a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places with architectural structures dating to the 1840s and most of the city’s charming downtown dating from the turn of the century - several movies have been filmed in Senoia)
Sharpsburg (first established as a trading post in 1825, Sharpsburg remained an agricultural center until the late 1940s. In 1997 a Hallmark Entertainment television movie based on the story "A Christmas Memory" by Truman Capote was filmed here. Crews took the Sharpsburg's streets back to the pre 1930s era, covering them in dirt, and used the old buildings as a backdrop to depict Monroeville, Ala. The sand was swept up for scenes taking place a few years later. A number of residents served as extras for the production which aired that Christmas on CBS.)
Turin (Established in 1830, when early pioneers of Coweta County settled about one mile south of the site of the present town and called it Preston - the name was changed to Turin and the town was chartered in 1890.)

Coweta County, Georgia's 67th county, bears the name of the Coweta Indians, perhaps the largest tribe of the Creek Nation, headed by William McIntosh, Jr., the half-Scott, half Creek who relinquished lands to the Federal government in the 1825 Treaty of Indian Springs.

A scenic highway and bike route - the Chattahoochee-Flint Heritage Highway - runs through Coweta, Troup, Harris and Meriwether Counties. The many festivals and special events in Coweta County include the Homemade Ice Cream Festival in historic downtown Newnan, the Taste of Newnan, the Old Town Sharpsburg Spring & Fall Festivals, the Senoia Progressive Dinner & Tour of Homes, Grantville Days, the Lewis Grizzard Bike Ride, the Puckett Station Arts & Crafts Festival, July 4th BBQ and the Powers Crossroads Country Fair & Arts Festival on Labor Day weekend.

Coweta County, an ideal place to live, is known for its ageless hospitality and historic treasures and is seeing massive growth while maintaining focus on preserving the beauty, history and integrity of the land. It’s location is ideal with Hartsfield International Airport only 30 minutes away and only a 40 minute drive to the heart of downtown Atlanta. But, you may never want to leave Coweta because of the quality of life we have to offer!
